My child is having difficulties but I am not sure that he/she needs therapy.
How do you decide?
Prior to beginning treatment, we conduct a full diagnostic evaluation in order to determine what the difficulties are and what would be the best way to address them. Psychologists are experts at assessment and diagnosis and we do not suggest any interventions until we have some clarity about your child’s full profile.
Do I need a neuropsychological evaluation?
Maybe not. Many children are able to be helped with an in-school evaluation or beginning therapy with a competent therapist. Our evaluations are for children
and adolescents who lack clarity about where to turn and have already tried first level interventions.
I am interested in treatment/evaluation. What should I do?
Please call our office at 732.806.1641 to indicate your interest. A ten-minute phone screen will be completed in order to decide if we are a good match for you and your child. Once you decide to move forward, we will schedule the diagnostic evaluation. This is a two-hour meeting with parents/direct caregivers and a separate session with a child. Included in the evaluation are phone calls to any other service providers with whom you wish us to be in touch – as well as standardized forms scored and interpreted. Based on the results of the evaluation, we will craft an evidence-based treatment plan that is right for you and your child. For neuropsychological evaluation patients, standardized testing and observations will be completed with your child prior to giving any feedback and recommendations.
What does evidence-based treatment mean?
At Dembitzer Psychological Services, we only provide treatments that are supported by research. This means that multiple studies have been done that showed that this treatment is proven to work in helping resolve a specific difficulty. When there is no clear guidance in the research, we will always be open with you about the best recommendations research has to offer.
What are your fees?
Please contact the office to discuss fees.
Do you take insurance?
We are not in-network with any insurance companies at this time. We can, however, provide a detailed superbill that you can submit to your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits.
I know that there is no way you can answer this for sure,
but how long will my child be in treatment?
You are correct that this answer varies with the severity of the symptoms and the motivation of the patients. However, we conduct short-term treatments and most of our clients terminate after 10 sessions. We evaluate progress after Session 5 and Session 10 to ensure that the approach is working for your child. Our goal is to get your child out of therapy as quickly as possible.
Do you do one-time consultation sessions?
If you are looking for an evaluation and feedback, you can join the assessment arm of our practice.
Do you treat adults?
We do, although the focus of our practice is on children and adolescents.
